Youth violins

The boys violin recital went well. It was rather short with each student playing just one piece. Still, Alice fell asleep halfway through. Since I don’t have much to write, I’ll just put in some pictures.

The exciting thing about the recital was the lack of piano. There was a grand piano in the room, but it had no keys. Presumably they were fixing things up over University break. There was an operational harpsichord in the room. This was exciting for several reasons: the harpsichord has minimal dynamic range and a very different feel from a piano and the harpsichord was tuned a half step low, baroque-style. This meant the violin teacher was frantically retuning all the students instruments and hoping that none of them had perfect pitch.

Fortunately it all turned out well. The harpsichord sounded interesting. Only one student seemed kind of bothered by playing half a step low and after a couple practice run throughs she did fine.
