The end of all tables

Alice has developed an amazing obession with the end table next to the couch in the TV area. If I sit with her on that couch she is a squirming bundle of purpose striving to get at the end table. I used to think that there was something on the table she wanted, but eventually I performed the key experiment and removed everything from. This confused her only momentarily, after which she was after the table again in full force. I let her get up on the table to see what would happen. Apparently it would have involved crawling right over the far edge. Now, there was a bucket of toys there but placing Alice in or next to it generated an instantaneous squall. Is it just a mountain she has to climb? Or are there invisible objects on the table that only Alice can see? The investigation continues.
