Over the weekend Charles decided that he like the I-Zone camera we got for the boys a couple of years ago. It’s been sitting around unused for a while. I put some fresh batteries in it and Charles was very pleased with it. Then I made the mistake of locating some old film for it. It turns out that the film isn’t very stable - it goes bad after a couple of years so most of the shots developed very poorly. Given that they were shot by Charles, that wasn’t a critical artistic loss for humanity.
This lead to Charles and Corwin wanting to fool around with my D70. I let them take a few photos with it (with much hands on help). Charles then decided I needed to use the tripod and he was still put out because Corwin got to use the camera remote to take group photos with Uncle Craig. So we went out on the back porch, set up the camera and let Charles take a bunch of pictures. He had a good time even though Corwin got to use the remote a couple of times as well. Charles did have a lot of problems using the remote. This was mainly because he would either point it off in random direction instead of at the camera or hold it enclosed in his hands. I just couldn’t convince him to just point it at the camera with one hand and push. Ah well - Corwin used to have the same problem but he eventually overcame it.
We’re still missing Corwin’s camera. We had it the last time we went to Texas (so it’s in the new house) but we haven’t seen it since. I’m sure it’s stuck in the back of some shelf. However, to keep the boys happy I let them borrow my little camera. Both of them tortured Paula with it. I ended up with dozens of out of focus shots (which is difficult with a modern auto focus camera) of Paula, Alice, various tables and many things I couldn’t identify. Four out of over 100 of the photos were keepers. I think Corwin could do better than that but he was enjoying the shooting more than the pictures and was playing with the video mode on the camera. At least I won’t have to tell my children that “it’s not the cost of the camera, it’s the film!” to disuade them from beggaring themselves on a photographic habit.
We found the camera earlier this year, in February I think. I thought I had made a post about it, but I can’t find it now. It was in the old video camera bag, which I cleaned out when I gave that to J-Mom. Now it’s so old that Corwin doesn’t like it well enough to use, although it’s a bit better than the U-30 Charles likes.
