Charles talk

Charles has taken to expressing his desires in terms of whether he’s happy or sad. He’s not subtle about it though. He states right out “I sad” or “I happy”. He’ll indicate his distaste for something by stating “That make me sad”. This morning it was being in the bathroom. I wanted Charles to do his morning washing while Charles was claiming “I not go in bathroom”. Oddly, for all of his verbal resistance once I actually picked him up and put him on his stool in front of the sink he went through the washing without objection.

We ended up at the bookstore yesterday because Corwin insisted on going out to a restaurant with a play area for supper and Mom was too tired to resist. As we were leaving Charles announced that he had five car stickers and so he wanted a train. While he was stating this he was working with his fingers to show fiveness, although he ended up alternating between five and ten. I was surprised that Charles remembered it. Sadly, I think he views filling up the cards as manna from heaven rather than something he can control.

Charles has started to claim that his poop is yucky, although he just giggles in reply when I ask him why, if poop is yucky, he makes poop in his pants. At least he’ll eventually be in college and it will be someone else’s problem then.
